Screening Procedures
At Beecham Tutors, we uphold the highest standards in tutor recruitment and placement. This page outlines the essential qualifications, vetting procedures and safeguarding protocols required for educators working across our global network. Whether supporting families at home or abroad, our rigorous screening ensures that every tutor meets the academic, ethical and professional benchmarks necessary to deliver exceptional learning experiences.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED OF EDUCATORS:
(a) A good general education. Applicants are expected to have passed a broad range of subjects at pre-16 and post-16 stages, having attained above-average grades. Inclusion of Languages, Mathematics and Sciences are valued. For example, British-educated applicants should have at least 8-12 GCSEs or O Levels and 3 or more A levels at above-average grades.
(b) A relevant first degree from a reputable global university with an above-average classification. For example, British-educated applicants should have at least an upper-second honours classification.
(c) If the first degree is non-educational, then a qualification in teaching *, at least equivalent to a British PGCE, is also required.
(d) Tutors who wish to offer preparatory tuition for selective education are themselves expected to have gained entry into a selective secondary school and a global top-50 university.
In practice, many professionals offer additional academic and professional qualifications.
Notes:
* In accordance with our private clients’ expectations, Beecham Tutors prioritises academic excellence over QTS. That means a strong first degree plus PGCE/BEd/MEd. QTS is a teaching qualification aimed at state-maintained schools in England.
* Applicants who offer EFL are advised that Beecham Tutors does not recognise the one-month CTEFL(A) or the three-month DTEFL(A) as teaching qualifications, unless offered in addition to an educational degree, such as BEd, PGCE, or MEd.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED OF TRANSLATORS & INTERPRETERS:
(a) A good general education. Applicants are expected to have passed a broad range of subjects at pre-16 and post-16 stages, having attained above-average grades. Inclusion of Languages, Mathematics and Sciences are valued. For example, British-educated applicants should have at least 8-12 GCSEs or O Levels and 3 or more A levels at above-average grades.
(b) A profession-relevant first degree, obtained from a reputable university from the principal target (native) language country, with a high classification. For example, British-educated applicants are expected to have at least an upper-second honours classification in the first degree.
(c) A native speaker of the target (first) language and a quasi-native speaker of 2nd or 3rd source language(s).
(d) If the first degree does not contain a significant element of the source language(s) ** namely the 2nd or 3rd language(s), then significant life and professional experience, gained in the country which has the source language(s) as the official language(s), is desired.
** The target language being the translator-interpreter’s first or native language.
In practice, many translation and interpretation professionals offer additional academic and professional qualifications.
